It is certainly true that the landscape for remote working has changed since the global pandemic. Supported with the increase in digital technologies, the ability for remote working has become abundantly clear.
There are many discussions held on the pros and cons of such working setups and an ultimate fear to productivity and team engagement has been raised. I myself love face to face interaction and I certainly would not want to lose that. However, I believe this is an example of change management, demonstrating a company's ability to show flexibility, adaptability and process evolution. Successful implementation will ultimately support staff retention, equality and attract top talent.
So how do companies get the benefits whilst mitigating risk?
It is critical for senior leadership to have clear and defined processes for business operations with key success indicators.
All employees should be adequately trained on the processes in place and clear work expectations set. It is therefore the completion of their work and associated standards that should be reviewed as opposed to their work location.
Support a positive culture for collaboration and arrange periodic in person catch ups to aid team engagement.
Aid new employees with mentoring and shadowing support and regular online team discussions.
Ultimately the success of remote working will be down to senior leadership in nurturing good communication across the group and feedback should always be welcomed.
